Inside the valley or at its gateway?

Staying inside the Itria Valley means being among the villages, in a landscape of dry-stone walls and trulli, but usually further from the sea.

Staying in Castellana Grotte, at the gateway to the valley, puts the villages of the Itria Valley within easy reach by car and, in the opposite direction, the sea at Polignano and Monopoli and the Castellana Caves, returning every evening to a trullo all to yourselves.

Why we are a good base

• A whole trullo, reserved for you, not a room in a shared building
• Alberobello about 10 km away, Locorotondo and Martina Franca in the same direction
• The sea and the Castellana Caves close by, in the opposite direction

A central base for the whole area

Il Giardino degli Ulivi sits in the middle of the Itria Valley trulli, the Castellana Caves and the sea at Polignano and Monopoli. You sleep in one quiet place with parking and set off by car each morning to the day's destination: there is no need to change accommodation to see it all.

Tips for touring the valley

• Get around by car: distances are short, but public transport between the villages is limited.
• In summer and at weekends set off early, to avoid the crowds and the heat.
